Known Hauntings in Gloucester, Cheltenham and the United Kingdom

Visited Known Hauntings

It seems that every pub and hotel in the UK has a resident ghost, lets face it, its good for business, but not always when you have a real ghost.

So as of 2025, I decided to start visiting the better known Ghost dwelling bars, theatre and bistros to check them out and get a feel for the place and write a little bit below. I don’t tell the owners of the businesses and I won’t be saying anything unpleasant and will just mention below the ones worth a visit to see or feel spirits for yourself.

2026 visits to follow shortly…
If you want me to visit your Pub, Bar or Restaurant to see if I can feel a presence there, just let me know by Getting in Touch and I will drop by sometime.

2025

The Old Courthouse, Cheltenham

Located opposite the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham and perfect for food and a drink before the show. I visited The Old Courthouse a couple of times in late 2025 and was quite surprise how a building of such human misery and emotional pain could lack any paranormal presence in the bar and restaurant area. However, I did go down to the toilets which are located in the basement, and that’s a very different feeling altogether.

I believe its part of the original holding cells and I could really feel the negative energy there before I even took the first step downwards on the staircase. I had a intents feeling of being watched and I could really feel the tension around me as I walked through the corridor, it made me think positive grounding thoughts.

Although nothing showed itself to me or tried to communicate, its well worth a visit just to feel the energy!

The Everyman Theatre

A wonderful evening out of entertainment in a well kept tidy building. I have been to the Everyman Theatre many times for music, shows and plays, but like so many theatres there is a lot of history from visitors and past staff. I always feel a middle aged man hiding behind the curtains on the very top floor. I stare back at a dark gap in the curtains hoping to get some reaction or spot some movement.

I do believe that what is there is Residual and not a intelligent haunting. This is probably the same for so many theatres in the UK and indeed around the world. Next time you visit take a look up at the small curtain windows right at the top nearest the stage.

Gloucester Antiques Centre

This is a great place to visit, lots old items spread over 3 floors. The building itself is very old and has a history going back hundreds of years. There are signs around the store advertising their resident ghost.

My visit here was in late 2025 and when I first walked in I could immediately feel the age of the place and its history just kind of grabs you and puts its arms around you. I did not introduce myself, I just pretended to be a customer and went for a wonder up its tight staircases and old creaking wooden floors. I made a point of keeping my hands in my pockets due to all these old items that were once connected to people, I did not want to touch anything.

So this is where I say “there was no spirits” – wrong!
While on the second floor I became very aware of a woman standing by the side of me wearing a old fashioned summer (1900’s) dress, which was white with flowers on it. She was smiling and so happy and was doing a twirl with her arms up high.

The other event was when I was leaving and was not so pleasant as the beautiful young lady. In the store there is a large collection of cuddly toys on the ground floor, and in amongst them was something very dark indeed. I could feel it staring at me with daggers as I walked by, it was almost as one of those cute teddy bear faces was not a teddy bear at all. I looked away trying not to study the bears for those intents eyes and left the shop. I do plan to return soon for another walk about.

The Langton Pub & Restaurant, Cheltenham

You could not be a paranormal investigator without visiting one of the most documented hauntings in British history known as the “The Morton Case“. The building in the 1880’s was once haunted by Cheltenham’s very own “The Woman in Black”. These days she has sadly left the building, but perhaps not totally!

On a visit to the Langton for a nice meal, I spoke to a lady who was waitressing and asked her if she had ever experienced any ghosts or spooky happenings? She looked puzzled and had never heard of any “Woman in Black” and has I told her about the original haunting and said the words “Woman in Black” all the lights flickered in the restaurant. It was very funny at the time and perhaps she still has a little bit of a presence there.

Grays Court Hotel, York

This is a stunning hotel located write next to York Minster. There is a genuine Intelligent paranormal presence walking around this luxury accommodation. While in bed on the first night I was being pushed from under the bed through the mattress, just like someone was under the bed trying to get my attention, which it 100% did. This only happened on the first night.

There is a large corridor/hall that runs through the centre of the hotel and leads to the main garden doors and this is where a well dress gentleman (with hair and ruffles) of great importance from 1800’s walks regularly up and down this area. Enjoy your stay.

York Castle Museum

The York Castle Museum is a fascinating place full of history itself as a building as well has having many artifacts and very much worth a visit. This is a very active paranormal place and I saw what looked like a caretaker from the 1920’s standing in a corner first of all. I had my hair flicked and my paranormal senses were in total over drive.

There is a mock up of a very detailed Victorian street, from which you can wonder in and out the mock up shops. One of the shops was a tailors and when I walked in I picked up straightaway on the dark entity which was in the shop, the atmosphere was toxic, and I was not welcome, I felt instantly nauseous and had to leave that place.
